Some relief for Cornish Council Taxpayers

Cornwall Council have Frozen the Council tax bills for the next 12 Month's. Members met yesterday to discuss the 2012/2013 budget which was set at £451.7 Million with a zero increase in Council Tax.

Key areas of the budget include setting £700,000 to fund a Cornish Bursary to support young people in education over the age of 16 and a £62 million housing investment plan to bring 4,125 new homes within next four years - 3,000 of which will be affordable homes to rent - as well as 520 empty homes being brought back into use, 700 existing homes improved and 2,200 homes adapted to make them safe for older and disabled people.

An additional £7 million was set aside for Adult Care and Support, with the budget also including capital funding for projects such as the dualling the A30 at Temple and improvements to A38 accident blackspots, the development of renewable energy facilities, the Port of Falmouth Masterplan and a new Archive and Records Office.

It come's as a big relief to Cornish people at a time when every penny counts.
